In our search of long lost tracks we have now come to a quite unique band, The Bear Quartet.

A band that indeed were a big part of the West Side history for some 16 years. I can still remember when I first met these bothersome, stubborn, we know what we want and we know it best kind of a band, a band with a truly big heart, for the first time. Love at first sight you might say. During that time they were more or less a guitar noise band within the same genre as acts like Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. And to be totally honest, when I first heard their music it blow me away. It had a nerve and it was edgy like nothing else.

Therefore I’m damn proud to present (the fifth) This Weeks Top of The World Track in Historical Perspective, “A Hole Was Dug” with The Bear Quartet. A song taken from their sixth album “Moby Dick”, a song that’s far from being one of their more famous once. Nevertheless, I will certainly come back to The Bear Quartet later again in our search for long lost tracks. After all they released 13 albums, one double compilation CD as well as hips an loads of EP’s through A West Side Fabrication.

This week you won’t hear anything new from this side, but we’ll certainly be back the following one, and the week after that and so on for quite some time.

First out on our schedule is the truly lovely pop-song “I Can’t Forget Or Remember” from Lars Ludvig Löfgren & The Smoking Pets. The single is an edit version taken from their forthcoming album “Sugar Hill”, with a release sat for August this year.

After Lars Ludvig Löfgren & The Smoking Pets we’ll give you new stuff from MINXY, Rickard och Juvelerna, Duellen, Pajala Truck Co as well as a six track release from our dear friend Kristoffer Emanuelsson’s new project Trehugger. Last time we heard something from him was when we released his alt country duet Blue Eyed Blonds (check them out on Spotify: Blue Eyed Blondes – Blue Eyed Blondes ) EP. And to be frank, still after these three years, we receive loads of feedback regarding their lovely self titled five track EP.

This Weeks Top of The World Track, in historical perspective

From a time when everything seemed to be possible, is from where we take “This Weeks Top of The World Track From A West Side Fabrication, in historical perspective”. The title of the song, “When It All Comes Down”, could be said as a hunch of what later happened to the band. Its also true that this particular band were indeed very promising with a good deal signed to Interscope, which included touring in the US with some, in those days, quite famous acts. But as said, it all comes down to who you could trust in this roughly business. So after a while they stood their with no contract and an album that didn’t even get properly released over there.

“When It All Comes Down” can be described as a time typical song for all these pop skaters. But to be honest, this song was far from the most popular one on the album “Odd Man Out”, from where it´s taken. The hit song, which probably took them to US to begin with, was a song called “Elvis”. In fact, they also re-recorded “Elvis” over there, for to much money if you ask me, together with some famous producer at some great studio. And still that track never saw the daylight, it went straight into the garbage bin. Other popular songs on “Odd Man Out” were for example the two other singles “Super Ball” and Never”.

Rickard och Juvelerna

Rickard and his jewelers are currently working with their next single, the awesome “Natten som du tänkte den”, with a release sat for the 11th of June.

They have also announced a couple of gigs with start this coming Friday (the 10th) at Slussens Pensionat, Orust.

Later on they will also appear at three different stages in Gothenburg; May 24 @ Valand, June 7 @ Sticky Fingers and August 17 @ Golden Goal, Heden.

Next week, on Tuesday, will the new and light mournful single from Rickard and Juvelerna be released, a single conveniently called “Sorrow Street”. And yes, there is indeed some kind of weird E Street feeling around and about this song. In our search for long lost tracks we have now come to a Gothenburg indie act which kicked off around the same time as Broder Daniel started to become a name in the same city, Broder Daniel in their sail costume outfit. But the band I’m talking about did not wear any sail costumes. Although I once saw two members in gorilla masks and another time some off them worn a rocket helmet. Whom I’m talking about? Well, they called themselves Waterbug (probably taken from their fanatic interest in fishing) and they wrote clever songs about illness, planetary, out of space subjects and to be lost in a pancake etc etc.

To be perfectly honest I must admit that Waterbug was a quite an unequal band. They released three albums during their career, each one within its own personality. The song I’ve chosen, for “This weeks top of the world track from A West Side Fabrication, in historical perspective”, is taken from their last and best album “In Between Beast And Freak”. And yes, time has done its work on their music but on this particular album I can at least name you four five tracks that still are great, “Last Night”, “Can’t Stay Forever”, the title track “In Between Beast And Freak” as well as the one I have chosen, “On The Bus”.

Therefore I now give you “On The Bus” a track still worth listen to, the third song in our search of long lost tracks.
