Next week, Tuesday the 6th, will we release the new single from stairs, which later will be followed by their debut album (around October/November). Because of that, I´ve asked their lead-singer Mikael Jinneskog a couple of questions.
So here we go.
What do you have to say about your forthcoming single release “No knock on my door”, (West Side first single for this autumn) what can we expect?
Three minutes of very good music. Probably the brightest thing we’ve recorded, upbeat with a catchy chorus. Simon Ljungman, who plays with Håkan Hellström, and Jens Back, previously with Lars Winnerbäck, have produced it. Stefan Sporsén (also with Hellström) plays amazing trumpet which adds the finishing touch and reinforces the melancholy features. It contributes to a sort of Balkan feeling, which I really really like.
In other words, the new one will be something completely different from your previously single, which from my point of view had something in common with songs from acts like Depeche Mode, at least it was a quite dark song (and great)? (listen to it on Spoitfy Stairs – Best Believe )
Indeed, Best believe was both dark and great, a bit to dark for radio apparently. Using synthesizers was new for us, something we wanted to try for the moment. I’m not saying I was relieved, but if it had become a success on the radio, then we would have been forced to write ten new synth songs, which had taken a hell of a time I suppose. Instead we have chosen to manage the material we had from before, and the new single is a natural continuation of that.
So what is your future plans with stairs after “No knock on my door”?
We plan to release our first album, which is already recorded, and to make some marvelous gigs this autumn and winter. And of course keep on writing songs.
At last, I know you´re from the city Örebro, so my question is; is it still a hardcore punk city?
Ha ha! I guess it is. People still like pressing the distortion pedal down. But I’ve got a feeling, there’s been some more pop orchestras coming up lately. At least one or two
